Football Glossary: Quarter-final

Quarter-final

The last 8 of a knock-out or cup competition, i.e. there 8 teams left in the tournament. The round before the semi-final.
  • Example: England reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 2002 and 2006.
  • Example: The quarter-finals of the FA Cup were all won by the home sides
