What’s the meaning of ‘play down rumours’? Is it connected to transfers?Â

To play down something means to not make something so important. If a player plays down transfer talk it means they do not think it's so important (maybe just rumours)

If a player, manager or agent play down talks or rumours then there might be some truth in them too?Â
