When a lower-placed team beats a higher-ranked or ‘better’ team, particularly in a cup competition
  • Example: Barnsley beat Liverpool and Chelsea in the 2008 FA Cup: two great acts of giant killing.
  • Example: England losing to the USA in the 1950 World Cup is a good example of giantkilling.
