Today sees the start of Group G which involves three extremely strong sides, Ronaldo’s Portugal, dark horses Ivory Coast and five-time winners Brazil. The fact that it is difficult to choose a winner from this group and that one ‘big’ side will be eliminated means that this is the group of death. As one mistake could mean a team is knocked out of the competition the group of death usually produces sterile games as teams are very afraid to lose. It will be interesting to see what kind of tactics that teams will use this time around – remember one of the following stars will not be playing in the knock-out stages: Ronaldo, Kaka or Drogba.
