This week’s football phrase is ‘a drubbing‘ which means a heavy defeat or a thrashing and usually this heavy defeat is seen as being a humiliating one. In last week’s North London derby Arsenal thrashed Spurs 5-2 – a very humiliating drubbing for Tottenham, while in the same week Premier League leaders Manchester City handed out a 5-0 drubbing to lowly Aston Villa.
