Premier League newcomers Hull continue to pick up points and remain in the top half of the table after five games. Last weekend they got a good result drawing with Everton to notch their eighth point of the season. Good news for the Tigers.
Very good for the ‘Vs’ in La Liga: Valencia go top as Villa bags a brace against Malaga, and Villarreal keep pace in second as they also win 2-0 at home against Racing Santander. Joining them in a clean sweep for the ‘Vs’ was Valladolid who overcame high flyers Almeria, also by the score line 2-0. Betis, Barcelona and Bilbao to win next week perhaps?
Just as we feared FIFA merely slapped Croatia on the wrists for the racist abuse their fans gave to England’s Heskey earlier this month. A poxy 20,000 Euro! When will they take stronger action? Croatian fans have been guilty of the same thing before. make them play their games behind closed doors. FIFA should take a leaf out of The Bulgarian FA’s book – they docked points and forced a side to play in an empty ground for racist chanting.
Bad for LA Galaxy as they drop down to equal bottom of the league on points after Chicago Fire easily overcame them 3-1. Galaxy’s stars Donovan and Beckham had no answer to a confident Chicago side.
Ugly for two of the biggest teams in Germany, Dortmund and Bayern Munich. Dortmund lost 4-1 to small town Hoffenheim, while Munich were destroyed 5-2 by Bremen. Admittedly, Hoffenheim have big money behind them, but they tore the ‘bigger’ team Dortmund apart. And as for Bayern, they may even miss out on a UEFA Cup spot if Klinsmann’s boys keep this up! Ugly for them, good for competition and excitement in the Bundesliga.
