Euro 2008 semi finals, tactical battles, Ronaldo’s transfer saga and violence in Bosnia all feature on this week’s the good, the bad and the ugly.
Good
Good of course for Germany and Turkey who go through in two very contrasting games. Germany – Portugal was open and pulsating with lots of goals, while Croatia – Turkey was a much more cagey affair that finished in unbelievable drama with two goals in the last two minutes of extra time sending the game into penalties. It was also good for German coach Joachim Loew who out thought his Portuguese counterpart by closing down the Portuguese wide players and allowing Michael Ballack to link with Klose up front. Very good tactics indeed.
Bad
Bad for Big Phil Scolari who not only saw his Portuguese team beaten by Germany in the quarter finals of Euro 2008 but three of the defenders on show will line up for his new side Chelsea in next season’s Premier League.
The draw for the tournament was pretty bad. Instead of winners playing teams from the other half of the draw the starting eight teams effectively play a mini-tournament before the final. It would have been much more interesting to see Germany taking on the winners of the Holland – Russia game for example.
Ugly
The constant news surrounding Ronaldo and his potential move to Real Madrid. Manchester United should just cash in and get rid of him.
