- Steve Staunton was sacked as Ireland’s manager after two years of poor results, woeful performances and inept tactics. Great player, poor manager. Report from the Telegraph newspaper
- Liverpool win a controversial derby game against Everton which Damon said had everything – goals, red cards, controversial refereeing decisions and flying tackles. He would say that though after his side won.
Everton manager David Moyes attacked Liverpool’s management after their post-match comments “I think it would be remiss of me not to talk about Saturday’s derby against Liverpool. “I have never known such widespread condemnation of a referee for his decisions in one game. But some of the comments which came from the opposition I regarded as a total cop-out.”
