[print_link] | Subscribe: The Good, the Bad and the UglyIn this week’s review section we look back at some of the big stories from the world of football to help learners of English improve their vocabulary. This week we look at two new managerial appointments and note that Luis Suarez is in the news again. You can find explanations of key vocabulary in bold below.
Good
Good news for German team Bayern Munich as they announced the signing of former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola to take over at the end of this season when current boss Jupp Heynckes retires. Guardiola lead Barca to two Champions League titles as a coach and the German club are hoping that his magic touch will continue with them, particularly after their disappointment in last year’s final.
Bad
Premier League side Southampton fired their manager Nigel Adkins this week despite the fact that he had taken them to two successive promotions in the past two seasons. The timing seemed rather strange as the south-coast club were on a decent run – they drew away at Chelsea this week – but it seems that the club wanted to further their long-term ambitions.
Ugly
Luis Suarez is back in trouble after admitting to an Argentinian media outlet that he had deliberately dived in a match against Stoke City earlier in the season. His manager Brendan Rogers has called this unacceptable and it will be interesting to see what sanctions the club take against the player.
