Newspaper Headline: Saved by the bell
This headline is taken from Star Sport (January 22nd 2020) and uses a boxing phrase to describe the late equaliser from Arsenal captain Héctor BellerÃn against London rivals Chelsea. In boxing when the bell sounds it means the end of the round; the time when the boxers take a break and sometimes when a boxer is hit hard and knocked down, the bell saves them from being counted out – they are saved by the bell. In football, this phrase suggests that a team has been saved near the end of the game and in this case Arsenal equalised late on in the game. Their captain Héctor BellerÃn scored with only three minutes remaining to help his side secure a point and a shortened version of his name, Bell, has been used in the headline – ‘Saved by the bell’ – Arsenal were saved by Héctor BellerÃn.
