Main Report 18: World Cup Draw Reaction

 

This week’s main report takes a look back at the World Cup draw that took place in Cape Town last week and asks 5 football fans from around the world what they think of their respective country’s chances. The transcript can be found below.

Damian: Right, we’ve got lots of football fans from around the world here and we’re going to ask them their opinions on the World Cup draw. Hello, can you introduce yourself.
Luciana: Hello my name is Luciana and I’m from Brazil.
DF: And Brazil are in which group?
L: Brazil is in Group G and it’s playing against Korea, Cote D’Ivoire and Portugal.
DF: Now which of those teams will be the biggest rivals for Brazil?
L: Definitely Portugal.
DF: Yes, it’s a tough group…
L: Yes, it is.
DF: Do you think Brazil can win the group?
L: Yes, I think Brazil’s going to win the group and win the World Cup.
DF: Wow, confidence indeed. Thank you.
L: Thank you.

Sungtae: I’m Sungtae from South Korea.
DF: And which group are Korea in?
S: South Korea is in Group B.
DF: With which other teams?
S: With Argentina, Nigeria and Greece.
DF: Er… what do you think … which team do you think is going to win this group?
S: I think Argentina will win this group.
DF: Yes, they’re a very, very strong team.
S: Yes.
DF: How about Korea? Do you think Korea can qualify?
S: Yes can be qualified because Nigeria and Greece are not strong.
DF: You think Korea can beat Nigeria and Greece?
S: Yes.
DF: Wow, confidence. Do you think South Korea can progress quite far?
S: Er, I’m not sure because it depends on other rivals.
DF: Absolutely. And which team do you think is going to win the World Cup?
S: I think Germany will win the World Cup.
DF: Alright, thanks very much.
S: Thanks

Anna: Hi, I’m Anna from France.
DF: And France are in Group…?
A: We’re in Group A playing up against South Africa, Mexico and Uruguay.
DF: Yes, what do you think, difficult group?
A: Not easy.
DF: OK, which team do you think is the biggest rival?
A: I think Mexico will cause us trouble as they’re a very technical team.
DF: And which team do you think is going win the World Cup?
A: Probably I think probably Germany.

Vanja: Hello, my name is Vanja and I’m from Serbia.
DF: And which group are Serbia in?
V: Our Group is.. it’s Group D. Serbia’s playing with Germany, Australia and Ghana.
DF: Oh, tough group.
V: Yes, I agree, I think the biggest rival is Germany.
DF: Yes. Yes, yes. Do you think Serbia can qualify?
V: Maybe. Maybe, yes, maybe it’ll come second…
DF: Perfect
V: … hope so.
DF: And which team do you think will win the World Cup?
V: I think Brazil.
DF: Wow, interesting stuff. Thank you.

Ioanna: Hi, my name is Ioanna and I’m from Greece. Greece is in Group B with Argentina, Nigeria and the Korean Republic. Er… I don’t think we’re going to qualify.
DF: Oh, okay not so confident?
I: No, not really.
DF: Which team do you think will qualify from this group?
I: Er… Argentina.
DF: Argentina. And which team do you think is going to be the World Cup winners?
I: I hope Brazil will win.
DF: Thank you very much.
