Football Newspaper Headlines: Golden Return for Ronaldo
This newspaper headline focuses on the second debut of Portuguese star Ronaldo after his brace against Newcastle in Manchester United’s 4-1 win. The headline simply reads ‘Golden Return for Ronaldo‘ with a huge image showing him celebrating. Ronaldo is described as ‘golden’ which probably is a reference to the fact that he scored two goals – maybe if this was a tabloid paper it would be written ‘Goal-den Ronaldo’ to emphasise the pun.
There is more information about the player’s return in the sub-heading, ‘United hero bags two goals on Old Trafford comeback‘ with the verb ‘bag‘ meaning to score – he bagged a brace. The Old Trafford comeback of course refers to the fact that Ronaldo used to previously play for United – he is now back scoring goals at Manchester United’s home stadium Old Trafford.
