During the transfer window – the period when teams can buy and sell players – there are lots of stories in the sports media about possible signings and moves. Sometimes a player decides that they want to leave because they want more money, a longer contract, to play for a bigger team or they want to increase their playing time – the fact that they want to be away from their club means they can be described as ‘wantaway’. Quite often the ‘wantaway player‘ makes their decision public either by handing in a transfer request or letting the media know. Managers tend not to like having wantaway players at the club as they might turn the club environment sour so they the wantaway player ends up leaving the club! Wantaway player.
