This word is used to describe a wonderful goal in football and usually this goal has been scored from long range – maybe from outside the box. The adjective a€˜stunninga€™ means something is very beautiful; something that might even take your breath away, while the verb a€˜to stun someonea€™ means to shock or surprise so a stunner means that people have been surprised at the beauty of the goal. In the opening match of the European Championship, Dimitri Payet scored a long-range goal for France and many people have described it as a stunner.
- Example: Croatia midfielder Luka Modric scored a stunner against Turkey on Sunday in a group D match.
- Example: Man City star Caroline Weir loves scoring a stunner vs. United (ESPN, Feb 14 2022)
