Community Shield
Traditionally played the week before the English football season starts, the Community Shield (formerly known as the Charity Shield) is played between the current holders of the Premier League and the FA Cup. The game usually takes place at Wembley Stadium and all the proceeds from ticket sales go to various charities that the FA supports. This year’s match sees 2014 league winners Manchester City take on FA Cup holders Arsenal.
- Example: Manchester United won the 2013 Community Shield by beating Wigan Athletic 2-0.
- Example: The traditional curtain raiser was previously known as the Charity Shield until 2002 when it became the Community Shield.
