To beat another team easily by scoring a lot of goals. This is most often used in the passive – to be thrashed, to lose by a lot of goals – and in headlines.

  • Example: Saudi Arabia were thrashed 8-1 in the World Cup by Germany in 2002.
  • Example: Vitesse were thrashed 4-0 as Ajax advance to semis.
