Squad

The squad refers to a group of players that a manager can choose from to select their team. Sometimes the word squad is used to describe the team but it usually refers to the first team, substitutes and the reserves. Each Premier League club is allowed to have up to 25 players in their squad.

  • Example: Liverpool will be looking to improve their squad next season.
  • Example: There are 23 players in a World Cup squad.
  • Example: Hege Riise adds to England women’s squad for games against France and Canada (Olympic Channel, April 7 2021)
