slump A bad run of form, a time of bad luck or bad results. It can also be used as a verb – to slump, the team slumped to their third defeat in a row.
  • Example: Tottenham’s slump in form affected their Champions League chances.
  • Example: Inter came out of their slump – three successive defeats – to eventually win away at Fiorentina.
