Football Glossary: Scuffed shot

Scuffed shot

This kind of shot is when a player does not really hit the ball cleanly but instead mishits the ball. This is often due to poor technique meaning these kind of shots rarely trouble the goalkeeper though sometimes they can be wrong footed by such a shot.

  • Example: The striker scuffed his shot when through on goal (i.e. the implication here is that the striker missed).
  • Example: The forward scuffed his shot wide of the post from inside the box.
