Football Glossary: Rival

Rival

a) An opponent that is either challenging your team in the league or is a team that you do not like much
b) It can also mean to challenge or compare (nothing can rival)

  • Example: Tottenhama€™s biggest rivals are Arsenal, while Manchester United’s main rivals are Manchester City.
  • Example: Nothing can rival the passion of a Boca Juniors-River Plate derby.
