Football Glossary: Midfielder

Midfielder

Someone that plays in the middle of the field; usually an all-round player.
  • Example: Liam Brady was the greatest ever Irish midfielder; he could pass, shoot, tackle and was tactically astute.
  • Example: There are different types of midfielders, for example, a holding midfielder allows others to play, while a playmaker plays a little further forward and helps to create attacks.
