Football Glossary: Loan

(to) Loan / (on) Loan

This is when one club lends a player to another club for no money (a loan signing / be on loan). Often the other club pays part or all of the loaned player’s wages.
  • Example: Ex- Premier League side Hull City made 4 loan signings when they were promoted.
  • Example: Liverpool are going to decide whether or not to make Andy Carroll’s loan move permanent.
