Cruyff turn
A piece of skill used to beat a defender by dragging the ball around this defender with the back part of the foot (started by Dutch legend Johan Cruyff). It is a type of feint or a dummy or shimmy but it is a vry skillful way to get away from a defender.
- Example: The winger used a Cruyff turn to escape the attentions of the defender.
- Example: The Cruyff turn first appeared in the 1974 World Cup when Holland’s Johan Cruyff turned the Swedish defender and left him for dead.
