Business End of the Season

The business end to the season refers to the most important part of the season or the the run in at the end of the football year. We use the term business as it suggests that vital matters are to be decided. So, at this time of year in the football world important issues such as becoming champions, winning trophies, getting relegated or qualifying for Europe are all focused on. When there are only 6 or 7 games left to play in the season teams are focused on the business end of the season.

  • Example: The business end of the season is usually when the cups and trophies are handed out or relegation is decided.
  • Example: The big teams usually play well in the business end of the season
  • Example: Lage excited for the business end of the season (The Wolves manager Bruno Lage is looking forward to the run in) (Wolves.co.uk, 7 April 2022)
