Football Glossary: (a) Stalwart

Stalwart

A stalwart refers to player that has stayed at a club for a long time; someone who has been in the team for many years. In addition to a sense of loyalty to the club, the word stalwart also suggests someone who works really hard for the team.

  • Example: Formiga forever: Brazil’s stalwart still shining for women’s football at 42 (Guardian.co.uk, May 9, 2020)
