Score a Screamer

The game we will focus on for day four of the Euro 2024 football phrase series is that between Romania and Ukraine. Romania ran out comfortable 3-0 winners, but it was the first goal that we will focus on.

A screamer is a type of shot that usually results in a goal. It is a really hard, unstoppable shot that is usually hit from outside the box. So, it combines power with distance.

Here is the headline from Eurosport.com describing the goal: ROMANIA 3-0 UKRAINE: NICOLAE STANCIU SCREAMER KICKSTARTS DREAM WIN FOR EURO 2024 UNDERDOGS IN GROUP E.

It is often used with the intensifier ‘absolute’, so an absolute screamer; a really powerful and amazing goal. Like these examples from X.

Surely, Stanciu’s goal could be one of the goals of the tournament so far. He hit it from just to the right of the D and it flew into the opposite top corner.
