Bore Draw

On day 12 at the Euros there were four matches and three ended in draws: France 1-1 Poland; Denmark 0-0 Serbia; and England 0-0 Slovenia.

The last match was a particularly boring match with Slovenia sitting deep and defending in numbers and England lacking creativity. The nil nil result was not a surprise.. England, a much higher ranked team the Slovenia – England are 5th and Slovenia 57th in the FIFA men’s rankings – were criticised by the english press for their performance, which can be described as a bore draw.

A bore draw is a boring draw, a match that had little excitement and ended with no goals.

Here is an example from the London Evening Standard: (Headline) ‘England in line for more criticism after bore draw confirms their passage to the final 16 of the Euros.’

Despite the boring win, England did progress, along with Slovenia, to the knockout stage.
