Sean Dyche said "Dwight McNeil is touch and go for this weekend's game at home to Chelsea after missing last weekend's draw with a knee injury while James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam are on the grass as they continue building their fitness" during the press conference before the match against Chelsea.

What is "touch and go" and "on the grass" in this context?

To be touch and go means that they are not sure if the player will play in the game or not. He might or he might not - we are unsure.

On the grass here means that the two players are returning from injury and now training on the grass (i.e. running outside and not just in the gym).

Thank you for your clear explanation to my this question as well.
"Touch and go" makes me imagine that I go through a ticket gate with JR Suica.
