What does "run for" mean?
Bamford and Van Dijk are both running for the ball.

To run for the ball means to try and get the ball by chasing the ball (we might also hear 'to run after the ball').
In this example, two players from opposing teams (Leeds and Liverpool) are both trying to reach the ball - they are running after the ball or running for the ball.
