What is the meaning of the phrases "rip the net" and "moorings" in football?
50 min: Honestly, Ronaldo nearly ripped the net from its moorings, and took the posts up as well. A hell of a whip into the top right. He’s got a taste for the spectacular in north London.

This expression simply wishes to emphasise the power of the shot from Ronaldo - to rip the net means to break the net and to rip it from its moorings suggests that the ball is so hard that the net has come off the posts (or stanchions).
