Hello, GOAL: Germany pull it back to 2-3 against England U19s on 78 mins through Benjamin Henrichs' long-range strike. What does "pull it back" mean? And sometimes I also hear "pull one back". Thanks.

Hello Hyuna,
To pull it back means that a team has reduced the deficit. Usually it means that the team is now closer to its opponents than before. For example, if a team were losing 0-3 and then they scored a goal this means they have pulled a goal back - or pulled one back where one refers to a goal.
If a team pulls a goal back but still does not equalise or win then we can describe the goal as a consolation goal.
