Greetings. I don't understand the following words. - Knock on/at the door. - Catch...on the back foot. - Knock it around. What do they all mean? But, on the back foot means to defend. Is that right? - PNE are knocking on the door, looking for an equaliser, with the ball cleared off the line by the hosts! Liverpool are knocking at the door now. - Blues break quickly, catching Wolves on the back foot. - Chelsea finally get their foot on the ball and start to knock it around in City's half.
To knock on the door (knocking at the door) means that the team is getting closer (to scoring); they are playing well and piling on the pressure.
On the back foot means that you have been surprised so in the example above Wolves were caught unaware by the speed of the attack.
To knock it around means to pass the ball (it) around - the team are in control and not really under pressure.
Thank you so much, Damian.
