What does "invited"/"inviting" mean in this sentence?

De Bruyne was invited to shoot as Lloris palmed his drive from range to safety but there would be no dramatic denouement as the Tottenham fans took the acclaim at the final whistle.

4 mins: Bright start this from Brentford, it must be said. Henry shapes in another inviting cross, Mbeumo gets in between Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell and - perhaps put off by their presence - heads it wide from inside the six-yard box.

Invited the player on: In the first of these examples the Tottenham defence has allowed De Bruyne to shoot by giving him lots of space. As the defence backs away/drops back, we can imagine that they are almost asking him to come forward and shoot! They invited him to shoot.

Inviting Cross: An inviting cross (or tempting cross) is a cross (or centre) that is dangerous; it is asking to be hit. If a player puts in an inviting cross, we would expect the forward in the box to attack the ball and maybe get a header or shot on target.

Thanks, Damian. Yes, I have read the phrase "buffet ball". It's a good phrase and I can undertand it now.
