What does "dive" mean in this sentence? Also, what does "down" mean? Shouldn't it instead be "fires the penalty in the middle?'
Burnley take the lead as Rodriguez fires the penalty down the middle as Areola dives to his left.

I think they used fired down the middle because it is also describing the movement of the ball or shot. Maybe ‘in the middle’ is just where the ball ended?Â
