Could you explain what the words "cruising" and "in/on cruise" mean in these sentences?
HALF-TIME Brentford 4-0 Man Utd
- Brentford are cruising after a commanding opening half display
- In the second half of the match, Villa were totally in cruise control.
- Liverpool were on cruise control when they grabbed the third.

Thanks for the question @dwi and apologies for cutting the original post (I think it was the forum update 😀)
Anyway, To be cruising or to be in cruise control means that one team is completely dominating the game and that they are under no pressure from the opposition. This is a driving term and means the car is automatically set for a specific speed - it is automatic and takes any difficulty out of driving. The idea of cruise control in football means the team has reached a good level without too much trouble at all.
Hope that helps
