Hello everone. I don't understand the following words. To clip. To get on the end of. spell. Could you please shey any light on those words? 16' Chance for Aberdeen as Rooney clips a shot over Gordon's cross bar from close range. 72'Bony tries to get on the end of Fernandinho's pass but Coloccini cuts it out in the nick of time for Newcastle. Derby County are enjoying a good spell in the half at the moment and are searching for a third goal.

  • To clip is to raise the ball so to clip a shot over means to lift the ball over the keeper. Similar to dink or chip.
  • To get on the end of is to reach a pass - usually when a striker reaches a pass from a team mate he or she is in a good position to score. In the example above Bony receives the pass from Fernandinho.
  • Spell is another word for time or period in a game.
