2023 Women's World Cup Semi-Final: Spark into Life
The first of the Women's World Cup semi-finals saw Spain defeat Sweden 2-1. After 80 minutes in which very little happened it appeared the game was going to extra time but three goals in the final ten minutes saw Spain qualify for their first ever final. The first of these three goals was scored in the 80th minute and was described by the BBC as 'sparking the game into life' which suggests that this was the beginning of the excitement.
A game of few chances had sparked into life when substitute Salma Paralluelo, 19, gave Spain the lead with just 10 minutes remaining.
So if a game sparks into life it means that it has started to become exciting with lots of things happening.
