Football Language: Touchline ban

When a manager behaves badly during the game he or she may be
sent to the stands (sent off). This may mean that the manager will not be allowed to participate in future games as a further punishment. As most managers stand on the side of the pitch during a game – near the touchline – this ban is known as
a touchline ban. This week Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger received a four-match
touchline ban after pushing the
fourth official in a game versus Burnley – he will not be allowed to be in the
dugout for the next four matches.
