Powerhouse

In football, when we talk about a powerhouse we are referring to a team that is traditionally a strong side – they have a long history and probably always challenge for titles. In England, the powerhouses would be Manchester United and Liverpool, while in Spain they would be Real Madrid and Barcelona. We can also describe Germany and Italy as European powerhouses when it comes to international football. Powerhouse

  • Example: Boca Juniors and River Plate are the two traditional powerhouses of South American football.
