Football Language: Long ball game
As we know there are many ways to play the game of football – there are many different styles of play. Some teams play a short-passing game in which they like to maintain possession, Barcelona’s tiki takaA style for example. Other teams play a more long-ball game which means that they like to get the ball up front quickly so that they can put the defnece under pressure. This kind of football may not be seen by purists as the ‘right’ way to play the game but it can be very effective against certain teams. Teams associated with this kind of football include Wimbledon from the 1990s, while this season Crystal Palace have played the most long balls amongst Premier League clubs according to opta stats. What teams in your league play a long-ball style of football?- Example: Arsenal manager Wenger admitted that he dropped star player Sanchez because he wanted to play a long ball game against Liverpool.
