Boring Boring Tottenham!

The third 4-4 draw of the season (interestingly the same teams have been involved in all three games) after a stirring comeback to overturn a three-goal deficit versus Aston Villa in October, this time we came back on three different occasions against London rivals Chelsea to snatch a point. And it could have been three had Berbatov scored in the last minute. And there you have our season in a nutshell, if only…? continue reading

More than just 5-1

I am delighted, really delighted after last night’s stunning win to book our place in the Carling Cup final and not for the obvious reasons either. Not the fact that we destroyed our rivals in a semi-final of a cup competition (’run riot’ BBC, ’spellbinding’ The Guardian and ‘incredible thrashing’ The Sun) nor that the crestfallen Arsenal players fought amongst themselves, which suggests that the match had been scripted, well, by me. continue reading

There’s only one Keano

Robbie Keane aims to join Spurs elite

One Keano with 100 Tottenham goals that is. Congratulations Robbie on becoming only the 15th Spurs man to do it and the first since Teddy Sheringham.  That’s 100 goals in 228 games which is a pretty good return for someone known as a scorer of great goals rather than a great goalscorer. Here are a few of them

Former manager, Martin Jol  thinks he’s one of the best, read what he says in The Times article from this week. Robbie has 101 Premier League goals in total and at only 27 years old has every chance to move up the all-time list where he currently lies 13th. Any takers on naming the 12 players above him in the list?

COYS

Fairly happy with the away point at Upton Park at the weekend despite the missed penalty from former star and current Hammer hate-figure, Jermaine Defoe in the last minute. Juande Ramos’ high pressure game is starting to bear fruit and with Berbatov playing in the hole we looked a good side. continue reading

Too Good to Go Down?

The worst start in ‘Premier League’ history (OK, since 1992). One win in 12 games. Against Derby. 6 league defeats with 3 of them coming at home. Including Arsenal. Have conceded 24 goals this season with only one clean sheet. 24 goals!!!! Lost at home for only the second time in our European history - to a team that were 2nd bottom in La Liga. Have lost the lead in 6 games when we scored first. Have conceded 5 goals in the 90th minute resulting in the loss of 6 points.

Too good to go down? How about just not very good at all?

Managerial Merry-go-round: Has it started?

logo_spurs1.jpg

Not yet but with Ten Cate (is there a cooler-sounding name in management?) leaving Ajax to work for Chelsea it may well be. It is, after all, that time of year when club presidents and fans, with the media stirring it all up nicely, become nervous as they realise that their best-laid plans at the start of the season are starting to come apart. continue reading

Bill Nicholson

Tottenham are 125 years old this season and Monday’s game against Aston Villa will be the official ‘anniversary match’. More importantly it is being dedicated to the greatest manager the club has ever had, Bill Nicholson.

Martin Jol: should he stay or should he go?

logo_spurs.jpg

The meeting last weekend between Spurs’ representatives and Sevilla’s Juande Ramos clearly was not just a casual or chance one between friends, so we can safely say that Spurs were sounding out the Sevilla coach about a move to London. Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, has subsequently suggested that Martin Jol’s position is safe for now but the club were (are?) worried that the push into the top 4 may not come under Jol and wanted to look at someone else (e.g. Ramos, Lippi and quite staggeringly, Redknapp). continue reading

Only sing when we’re winning

logo_spurs.jpg

Crisis? What crisis? All is good at White Hot Lane (The Guardian) after a crushing 4-0 defeat of Derby this weekend. After two successive defeats the Spurs finally got their season up and running with two goals from Malbranque, and one each for Jenas and £16 million Bent.

Fans chanted the name of Martin Jol throughout the game to demonstrate their support for the supposedly ‘under fire’ Dutch manager who before the game was ridiculously being touted as the first managerial casualty of the season. This was, after all, the man who has taken Spurs from being a laughing stock of the Premier League to two successive fifth places in the league with good attacking football to the fore. continue reading

When does the season start?

logo_spurs.jpg

Have I missed something? Has the season already started? I am dying to see the new-look £40 million Spurs strike force this season. Can’t wait. Can anyone help?

Tottenham: 5th again (like we did last summer)

logo_spurs.jpg

Another season over and another fifth placed finish for the Spurs. After last season’s disappointment at losing out to rivals Arsenal on the final day this time we reach our highest position of the season on the very last day after a victory against Manchester City.

Quarter finalists in the UEFA Cup and FA Cup as well as semi finalists in the Carling Cup meant that the team played 59 times as opposed to only 40 last year. The team scored 104 goals - yes that is 104 - this season continue reading

UEFA Cup: who cares?

logo_spurs1.jpg

With Bremen, Leverkusen and Benfica all having played in recent Champions League competitions, Sevilla and AZ Alkmaar both challenging at the top of the Spanish and Dutch leagues and tough Spanish sides Osasuna and Espanyol left in the UEFA Cup quarter-finals it seems that this year’s competition could be the one that finally raises the profile of the tournament.

Of course, I am biased as my team, Tottenham Hotspur, have also made it to this stage having won all 8 of their matches this season, a run that continue reading

Away day blues

logo_spurs1.jpg

Another away game and another defeat, no matter that the opponents were ‘lowly’ Sheffield United (now only 3 points behind Spurs), Tottenham simply cannot win in 2007. continue reading

Dark days at the Lane

logo_spurs1.jpg

Thrashed at home on Sunday by Manchester United so soon after the demoralising defeat against Arsenal in the semi-final of the League Cup has left Spurs fans in a dark place. Yes, Ronaldo dived to earn an undeserved penalty for United just before half-time but so did Zokora against Portsmouth earlier in the season. After matching United for the first 44 minutes Spurs showed yet again that they lack the mental toughness to close up a game at key points. Chelsea would never allow a goal to be scored so close to half-time.
