La Copa del Rey

 

Here’s a question for you. What links the following Spanish teams? Sevilla, Espanyol, Betis, Zaragoza, Mallorca, Deportivo de la Coruna? Hard though it is to believe they make up the last 8 winners of the Spanish domestic cup competition, La Copa del Rey. No victories for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico or Valencia this century with Real not having won the cup since  1993. Whereas in England there are complaints that there is little chance of an upset in Spain the complaints revolve around the big clubs not taking the competition seriously at all. continue reading

Though Spain and England are two of the great under-achieving sides in world football both teams were being touted as possible European Championship winners at the start of this qualifying campaign. Six-horse race?

 

The top six teams in Spain’s La Liga are only separated by 6 points and with a resurgent Sevilla coming up on the rails in 1oth place we are in for yet another exciting title race. Sevilla are the in-form team and seemed to have shrugged off the departure of Juande Ramos to Tottenham. continue reading

Shining again!

Usually people like it when their team wins, despite how it has played. However, Barça supporters want our team to play well because it’s the only way to win. Barça suffers a lot to win when they play badly, despite that the team against they are playing is very bad. For this reason, I want to classify two types of teams:First, the ones that play speculative football and are used to winning, such as Chelsea or Real Madrid. These are teams with a strong mentality, they use to be physically well and held each opportunity to score. With only four opportunities they can make three goals. Why? Who is currently the best player in the world?

Easy. Another week and another outstanding performance from Barcelona’s Lionel Messi. He scored one and made another - albeit thanks to poor keeping - to help his team easily defeat Atletico Madrid 3-0, a result that keeps the Catalans in second place two points behind their rivals Real Madrid. continue reading
