Estudiantes win the Copa Libertadores for the fourth time and Juan Sebastian Veron does his father proud as he leads the Argentinians to a come from behind 2-1 victory (his father won the cup three times with Estudiantes). Well done the ‘rat-stabbers‘. In Europe, transfer fever continues and Tevez crosses the divide from Manchester United to Manchester City, who are still courting Chelsea’s John Terry.

PREDICTION

Last week, we had the second leg of the Copa Libertadores. Neither Damon nor Damian guessed correctly – although Damian did say Estudinates would win, that was with the away goals rule.

The result – Cruzerio 1 – 2 Estudiantes – (Damon 2 – 0 – Damian)

This week, we look at one of the big Brazilian Derbies – Gremio versus Internacional. These two teams are the big teams from the southern state of Porto Alegre and this year is a hundred years since they started their rivalry. Gremio will be hoping to get revenge after losing the last four games these two teams have played.

Featured Game

Damon: Gremio 1-0 Internacional - No 10-0 victory for the Gremistas to cheer (their first game against Internacional in 1903) but a victory in the Gre-Nal derby.

Damian: Gremio 3-1 Internacional - Gremio to thrash their rivals!

FOOTBALL LANGUAGE

This week’s English for Football is grudge match. To hold a grudge is to have a bad feeling against someone because of something that has happened in the past. Of course, in football a lot of history builds up between clubs and if there has been some bad feeling in a game then the next time the teams meet the game becomes a grudge match. Often these games are also derbies. This week we look at the Porto Alegre grudge match between Gremio and Internacional.
