The River Mersey Runs Blue

Massive game on Sunday for us Blues. In the biggest Merseyside derby for years I have my fingers and toes crossed that we can have a right go at them and take the 3 points.
I believe in karma so surely after the worst refereeing performance of the season by Stevie Me’s best mate Mr. Clattenberg in the reverse fixture earlier in the season at Goodison, hopefully the Gods will be wearing blue this time.
We have been wobbling a little bit recently but have still only lost once in 2008 in the league. We have only taken one point off the big four (I hate that phrase) all season and that was away at Chelski. If the blues are genuinely going to bridge the gap and make it back into the top 4, then we need to start picking up points against them. No better time to do this than Sunday.
Typically cautious and pessimistic when it comes to LFC, I just hope we don’t see a repeat of 04/05 when even though we finished 4th, the kopites had the audacity to go on and win the CL. Unluckily (just call me a bitter bluenose), LFC do have a history of inadvertantly affecting the path of our history. Surely lightning can’t strike twice can it?!
Realistically it would be an amazing achievement if we could get that 4th place this season, given the difference in budgets of the two clubs.

To the match itself on Sunday, if we can feed the Yak then he will score. How many times will Jamie Carragher get away without conceding a penalty this season? We haven’t been awarded one yet this season either… surely his and our time will come in this regard. Anfield will be rocking no doubt and this really is our cup final. It will be really difficult because the kopites will be smarting from their loss against Manure last week. If Yobo and Lescott keep Torres quiet, Arteta weaves his magic, Johnson gives them the run-around then all we need to do is feed the Yak and he WILL score. COME ON YOU BLUEBOYS!!

A lot of ifs there Ben. A lot of ifs.

Mascherano’s suspension is a big loss, but balanced by Tim Cahill being out injured for the Blues. A 0-0 draw like last year will be enough for us to keep fourth spot this season I reckon - the Toffees have a sticky run in with games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Villa.

How about Liverpool’s next four matches?
    Everton home
    Arsenal away
    Arsenal away
    Arsenal home
    Make or break fortnight

Liverpool will bottle it. They can’t perform against the big teams. they may beat Everton, but Arsenal will show them how to play attacking football and will win two of the three games, knock them out of the CL and put them in danger of losing fourth spot.

Alas it wasn’t to be :-( Ultimately we just couldn’t create. Johnson and Cahill were sorely missed and we never really looked like threatening. Liverpool should have been home and dry by half-time and it wasn’t a great game. I would hope your prediction comes true Siobhan and Arsenal do the triple over them in a week. However, I can’t see that happening. Rafa does have the magic touch over 2 legs..
