Why do we play or watch football? To see our team win of course. Well, that’s Brazilian manager, Dunga’s opinion anyway. After the bruising encounter with Uruguay in the Copa America semi-final he dismissed complaints that his side were boring and not playing in the Brazilian style of play, the famous Joga Bonito. “If we keep on thinking only fancy skills are beautiful then we’ll never win anything, just like our 1982 side.”

So, which team do you remember with more fondness: the 1994 Brazilian team that Dunga captained to win the World Cup scoring 1 goal in the turgid semi and final matches? Or the glorious 1982 Brazilian side with Socrates, Zico and Falcao that eventually lost to Italy in one of the all-time great football matches?

So, why do we watch and play football?
Easy, Lionel Messi’s goal that’s why, breathtakingly beautiful.

Joga Bonito is alive at this year’s Copa America but is wearing sky blue and white.
Here it is again (in English)
