When news broke that Liverpool had bought Fernando Torres, the Atletico Madrid prodigy for 26+ million pounds, my immediate reaction was to think – Hang on a minute! They must be kidding! That’s a lot of money to be splashing out on a striker from La Liga’s seventh-ranked team (that’s Bolton in the Premier league). As it turns out, the initial reports seem to have over-estimated the price, and at 20 million, Torres, El Ninio de oro, the golden kid, is coming to Anfield. Now, 20 million sounds a lot better than 26, and with Bellamy looking as if he’s on his way to West Ham for 8 million, Garcia already gone for 3 or 4 million, perhaps The Reds have more money left to secure the winger to give the new number 9 some service. Quaresma perhaps?
I’m sure the next few weeks will bring some more movement in the transfer market, but as things stand it looks as though the only way is up for Liverpool and their new signing from Spain.
